For a team in Marlow's position possibly the worst that can happen is to concede an early goal - Marlow conceded two in the first 10 minutes and this contributed greatly to a display lacking desire, passion and commitment until the closing minutes. Stuart MacLellan and Jon Nydell were both missing through suspension and Jermaine Roche has still not returned from resting his long-term injury but Charlie Fanner was making his first appearance in goal for months following his own finger problem and Marlow were grateful to him for some fine saves. Indeed they might have gone ahead in the 4th minute themselves when the visiting keeper had to scramble back and manage to turn a deflected Aaron Couch shot away from his goal but almost immediately North Greenford took the lead as Zak Joseph cut past Mark Avery from the left and found the net between Charlie Fanner and his near post. Joseph scored a screamer 5 minutes later from around 30 yards when firing in without any sort of challenge giving Fanner no chance whatsoever. Fanner was kept busy making several good saves to prevent matters getting worse whilst Marlow offered little in return and seemed to lack organisation as well as determination to do anything about the situation. They came out after the break and did look briefly as if they could get back into the game but a hotly disputed own goal against Jon Case was awarded by a linesman in the 64th minute to increase the arrears and again the heads dropped. The deflation was clear to see and was highlighted 6 minutes later when Fanner again made a great save only for substitute Jack Duffy to tap in the rebound with 6 blue shirts in the box all motionless. Alex Cairns' through ball presented an opportunity for Adam Harman 6 minutes later but his shot failed to find a way past the keeper but Jon Case did manage to get the ball in the net with 5 minutes of normal time remaining following a good passing move and a Jordan Dowdican shot that was skewing wide before reaching him at the far post. Case continued to push forward and was clearly fouled into stoppage time to win a penalty that Harman neatly tucked away to make the result look a little better - but not enough to disguise the performance or hide the problems so evident on the pitch. Fanner, Case, Blanks (Mbamarah 19), Herridge, Avery, Cairns, Isaac (Stone 45), Gill, Dowdican, Harman, Cocuh. Subs: Benmadani, Alozi, Croxford. |
